Don't Dream It, Be It

Although borrowed from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", these are words for me to live by. Someone asked me, "Aren't you a little old to have such big dreams?" to which I replied, "Am I too old to be alive?"

New Teeth

I am in the process of getting porcelain veneers for my two front teeth. (That is tooth eight and nine for all you dental students out there.)

I went to the dentist last Tuesday, July 19. I spent about an hour and fifteen minutes in the chair getting my two front teeth drilled and filed down. It really wasn't painful. I was good and numb. The only painful part was having to go to the bathroom about a half an hour into the procedure. I got a pair of temporary teeth to wear until my real teeth come in. I was to go back to get my permanent teeth on August 3.
The following Thursday, I got a call that the lab lost an impression, and that I will have to come back in to get another impression done. So, back I went yesterday.
I love my new dentist. Her staff is awesome and extremely friendly. They all have a dry sense of humor.
The dentist took off the temporaries by using some sort of drilling/cutting device. She asked me if I wanted her to numb me and I was like, "No. I'm fine." She started cutting the temps off and I about went through the roof. It's not that it was painful. There was this awful tinny, tingling, nails on a chalk board feeling, every time the tool touched what was left of my teeth underneath the temps. Then, she bleached what was left of my real teeth. That felt funny. My two front teeth were so sensitive that I would salivate anytime anything such as water, air, or tooth bleach, would hit them. She offered to numb me again, and once again, I declined. At least I know what to look forward to when I get my permanent veneers on August 10th, because I will have to go through the whole removing of the temporaries again.
I felt bad for the gal who did my impressions. I was salivating so much, that when she went to take the mold out of my mouth, a big glob of saliva followed into her hand. I was like, "I am so sorry." I figured she was used to it and has seen a lot worse in her day, but still--Gross!
The ladies gave me a consolation prize for being so good about having to come back again. They gave me a BreathRX starter kit. It's a $30.00 value. It felt like Christmas in July! I was like, "Hey, are y'all trying to tell me something?" Actually, the kit is cool. I got toothpaste, floss, a tongue scraper and tongue spray, mouth wash, gum, and breath spray. It is supposed to kill the bacteria that causes bad breath all day long. I have never had my tongue scraped before. It is pretty gross, but fun.
Anyhoo, I will post pictures of my new teeth within the next few weeks. I love my temps. Even with the temps, I smile a lot more now!
